Latest Sighting

Overcast and cool today with great visibility. Not a huge number of reports today although like most months it should be possible to see over 60 species of wild bird in a day on the reserve.

Around 300 Whooper Swan on the Mere late afternoon, and a count taken on Friday of just 500. Double that number of Pink-footed Geese on Plover Field this morning which like the Whoopers are migrating North.

The single Bewick's Swan again on Top Mere in the afternoon, getting easier to pick out!

On the wader front Lapwing, Avocet, Ruff, Black-tailed Godwit, Oystercatcher, Redshank and Common Snipe are all present. We might expect Little Ringed Plover soon as they are an early arriving species.

With spring on it's way things are looking up. Including this developing breeding plumage Ruff.
