Latest Sightings

A total of 16 Whooper Swans were seen on the Mere on Friday. They are early arrivals from Iceland and there should be plenty more to follow by the end of October. The Whooper Swan can be identified by it's large size, black and yellow bill, and black legs.

1 Snow Goose was present over the weekend and was seen today on the Mere, among the Pink-Footed, Greylag and Canada Geese. The Snow Goose is a white morph and can be identified by black feathers on the tail. It is native to North America and a rare vagrant to the UK.

1 Russian White-Fronted Goose was spotted again, as well as 1 Barnacle Goose, from Ron Barker Hide.

You can experience amazing views of the Pink-Footed Geese during our Dawn Flight and Late-Night Openings. Roe Deer were seen on Saturday’s Late-Night Goose Spectacular.

2 Spotted Redshank were observed on Friday flying from Rees hide to Discovery hide. They are relatively rare passage migrants, distinctive from a Common Redshank by their longer, thinner bill and paler body.

The Cattle Egrets have been showing in high numbers, with 36 counted. They can be viewed best from Gordon Taylor and Tomlinson hides, sitting on the cattle in Woodend Marsh. You might also see a Great White Egret - 3 spotted this weekend - or Little Egret - 2 were on the Mere.

Also seen; 4 Pochard, 2 Wigeon, 1 Grey Heron, 2 Shelduck, 1 Gadwall, 5 Shoveler, over 50 Teal, 1 Marsh Harrier.
