Latest Sightings

It's starting to feel like Autumn as the leaves fall from the trees.

We had around 5,000 Pink-Footed Geese fly in for our Evening Goose Spectacular on Wednesday during a beautiful sunset. They can be seen on the back of the Mere during the day, alongside Lapwings and Cormorants.

The Whooper Swans are still here and can be seen up close during our daily feed with commentary.

There are a large number of Shelduck, Mallards, Pintail, Pochards, Wigeon, Tufted Ducks, and Coot.

1 Barnacle Goose and 1 Swan Goose has been spotted on the Mere. You can view them from Discovery Hide, Raines Observatory or the viewing platforms on the path to Janet Kear/Harrier hide.

Barnacle Geese are one of five migratory geese to winter in the UK. The Swan Goose comes from central Asia and may have been introduced to the wild from a captive collection. It can be seen amongst the Greylag Geese and Canada Geese.

Also seen today on the Mere were 3 Great White Egrets, 1 Buzzard and 1 Greater Black-Backed Gull.

1 Kestrel and 1 Skylark were observed at Gordon Taylor hide.

1 Snipe has been seen at Ron Barker hide and 1 Cetti's Warbler at Rees hide.
