The weather is mild and windy, but you may enjoy birdwatching from the comfort of our hides.

On the Mere today, there are a good number of Whooper Swans, 2000 Pink-Footed Geese sitting on the fields behind, and 300 Lapwings flying. You can view an array of waterfowl species from our Discovery hide, where we host a Wild Bird Talk and Feed at 3pm every day. Birds that you will observe include Cormorants, Shelduck, Pochard, Tufted Ducks, Pintail, Coot, Moorhens, Shoveler, Wigeon, 1 Greater Black-Backed Gull and Black-Headed Gulls.

There are often Teal and Gadwall to be seen on the water at Harrier hide and Ron Barker hide. You may also see Great White Egrets, Little Egrets and Grey Heron around the site.

Black-Tailed Godwit, Ruff and Snipe are wading birds that are present and can be seen from Discovery hide or viewing platforms.

1 Snow Goose remains on the Mere - you can identify this rare visitor by it's white body and black tail feathers. We believe it is a vagrant that has arrived here from Greenland with the Pink-Footed Geese.

1 male Hen Harrier, 1 Marsh Harrier, 5 Cattle Egrets, 1 Water Rail, 1 Reed Bunting, and 5 Red-Legged Partridge were spotted at Ron Barker hide over the weekend. 2 Buzzards were seen over the reedbeds.
