Latest Sightings

A lovely day out in the sun although still nippy in the hides with a slight northerly. Probably not encouraging the arrival of many migrants although many species will be trickling through perhaps unseen.

A few Chiffchaff present in song along the Nature Trail and inside the Waterfowl Gardens. Only a matter of time before Blackcap and Willow Warbler are found from the presence of their songs. Two Sand Martin North.

Raptors present include 4 Kestrel, 2 Sparrowhawk, 8+ Common Buzzard and a report of Marsh Harrier. Barn Owl hunting til mid morning and Tawny Owl. No Osprey so far....

Waders include 35+ Black-tailed Godwit, 60+ Avocet, 50+ Lapwing, 40 Oystercatcher, 20+ Ruff, 6+ Redshank.

Also seen today 2 Kingfisher, Med Gull and Great-spotted Woodpecker. Brimstone Butterfly, Peacock and Small Tortoiseshell.

On thursday there was a written report of Bearded Tit from the United Utilities Hide. This would be the first record of this species for over 15 years and an unusual spot for this species to be found. If you saw it and have a photograph we would be delighted to hear from you.
