Latest Sightings

Less windy than of late although still on the cool side the forecast looks good for the weekend. Yesterday's Great-crested Grebe has been joined by another and they have been engaging in some display in front of the Harrier Hide so watch this space!

A new addition to the year list of Jay (two) flying over the Reed Bed this morning, not an obvious 'summer arrival'. A smattering of winter species mostly wildfowl are present including a few hundred Pink-footed Geese. Locally a Greenland White-fronted Goose was seen today so keep scanning those Pink's!

On the wader front at least 50 Avocet, 20+ Oystercatcher, 20+ Black-tailed Godwit, 20+ Lapwing, 6+ Redshank. Any day now we could expect Common Sandpiper and Little Ringed Plover.

Two Marsh Harrier still, 8+ Common Buzzard showing great variability in plumage, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel.

Four Mediterranean Gull on the Mere late afternoon. Raven again today.

Over 100 Sand Martin this morning, also a few Swallow again.

Chiffchaff and Willow Warbler in song around the reserve. A pair of Yellowhammer along the hedge row beyond the Sewage Works and a few Meadow Pipit feeding in farm fields further along as well as Pied Wagtail. Wheatear also seen today.
