Latest Sightings

Starting off with waders with 1+ Green Sandpiper being seen from the Kingfisher Hide mostly on the pool to the left. A Knot in non breeding plumage on the Mere late afternoon was note worthy. At least 3 Common Sandpiper on the reserve possibly more as birds have been recorded from the Ron Barker/Kingfisher/Hale/Harrier Hides as well as on the Mere.

At least 100 Lapwing present, 50+ Black-tailed Godwit, 20+ Avocet, 6 Oystercatcher, 2 Redshank, 2 Ringed Plover, 5 Little Ringed Plover and Common Snipe.

A few Common Tern to be seen either fishing or loafing around the reserve. Med Gull from the Harrier Hide yesterday. Two Little Egret, 2 Great-crested Grebe and Little Grebes including fledged juveniles.

On the raptor front a Hobby was hunting near the United Utilities Hide mid afternoon. Also present Peregrine, Marsh Harrier, 3+ Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel. Two Barn Owl hunting early on from the United Utilities Hide.

Kingfishers again from Ron Barker and Janet Kear Hides. Great-spotted Woodpeckers also at the JK Hide.

Some excellent views of Swift, Swallow, House Martin and a few Sand Martin hunting low over the reserve in windy conditions.

Plenty of young birds around including Tree Sparrow, Goldfinch, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Robin, Dunnock, Wren, Blackbird, Starling etc.
