Little Gull

A strong North Westerly for most of the day making it feel cold. Any promised showers failed to materialise so no obvious new waders in today.

A moulting adult Little Gull was found late afternoon with Black-headed Gulls from the Ron Barker Hide. Common Gull, Lesser Black-backed and Great Black-backed Gull all present today but no reports of the Med Gulls.

On the wader front a sparse selection did included 50+ Avocet, 50+ Black-tailed Godwit a few Oystercatcher and Redshank and a single Dunlin. Locally the first Whimbrel were recorded today.

Raptors included Peregrine, Marsh Harrier, 4+ Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel.

Just off the reserve a calling Grey Partridge. This species is much rarer locally and probably everywhere compared to the Red-legged variety, possibly due to the easy of breeding the 'french partridge' for shooting.
