An excellent few days producing over ten new species for the year. It's not surprising that these birds have arrived now, in fact many have been later than of recent years. A couple of reports we missed, Reed Warbler on Tuesday new for the year and a group of Arctic Terns which flew through in the rain on Wednesday. Similar weather is forecast for tomorrow so we could expect another tern day, maybe Black Tern or something rarer? Todays Wood Warbler puts our year list onto 135 species. There have been a fair few Wood Warbler records for the reserve although the last one was over 4 years ago.

Wood Warbler still present 4.30pm occasionally singing near the Bewick's enclosure. Warblers were in action today with Garden, Willow, Reed and Sedge all in song as well as Whitethroat, Blackcap and Chiffchaff. A Treecreeper was seen collecting food, undoubtedly feeding young some where. Willow Tit also present.

A female Red Crested Pochard was found mid afternoon from the Harrier Hide, the bird was asleep, perhaps a recently arrived tired migrant pushed over on the easterly airflow???

Plenty of Common Swift on the move today. A few White Wagtails present in front of the Harrier Hide this morning.

Two first summer Med Gull 5.15pm from the Ron Barker Hide.

Waders included Common Sandpiper, Dunlins, probable 'tundra race' Ringed Plover, 80+ Avocet, 20 Black-tailed Godwit, Curlew a few near summer plumaged Ruff but no sign of yesterday's Curlew Sandpiper.

The usual raptors 2 Marsh Harrier, 6 Common Buzzard, 2 Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.

No reports of the Common Crane although it may be present in the area.
