More Signs of Spring

Plenty of action and a few assorted counts from around the reserve today. A slight decrease in Whooper Swan with 880 roosting. A slight increase in Pink-footed Geese with 2600 resulting from birds coming north from Norfolk. Other wildfowl counts included, 180 Greylag, 27 Canada Geese, 600 Shelduck, 1780 Wigeon, 2090 Teal, 1480 Mallard, 269 Pintail, 35 Pochard, 22 Tufted Duck, 8 Mute Swan, 4 Shoveler and 2 Gadwall.

New Avocet in with 8 birds present. An influx of Black-tailed Godwit from the coast is a welcome sight with at least 260 birds. Still 2000+ Lapwing, 70+ Ruff, 2 Ringed Plover, 30+ Oystercatcher, Dunlin and Common Snipe.

Surprisingly quiet for raptors with 3 Common Buzzard, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk. Also Barn Owl.

Other counts included 780 Black-headed Gull, 19 Cormorant.

Primrose in flower inside the collection.
