Peregrine

A Peregrine was again seen taking young Avocet chicks from Ron Barker hide, this has become a regular event in recent years on site, with the young Avocet chicks wandering far from the parents they make easy pickings for the Peregrine, not to mention the usual dangers from Crows and Lesser black backed Gulls.

A Yellow Wagtail was at the back of Sunley's again viewed from Ron Barker, also at least 40 Black tailed Godwit and lots of Avocet and Redshank, along with Ringed Plover to look for. The pair of Common Tern were again around the Mere most of the day, and at least 1 Mediterranean Gull again.

A report of a singing Lesser Whitethroat near the UU hide, and seconhand reports of a Lesser spotted Woodpecker heard in the grounds near the canoe safari, if anyone has any details or saw or heard the bird please let people on site know as this is a very good record of this rare and declining woodpecker.
