Pink-feet

More Pink-footed Geese arriving with a count of 713 birds. Other water bird counts included 553 Greylag, 200 Canada Geese, 1150 Teal, 1130 Mallard, 12 Wigeon, 2 Pintail, 34 Shoveler, 39 Gadwall, 2 Tufted Duck, 29 Moorhen, 60 Coot, 12 Cormorant and 15 Grey Heron. Kingfisher from the Ron Barker Hide.

An eclipsed/moulting drake Garganey was seen with teal in the Woodend Reedbed.

Plenty of waders to scan through with 700+ Lapwing, 37 Ruff, 13 Dunlin (south), 6 Black-tailed Godwit, 20+ Common Snipe, 3 Green Sandpiper and Redshank.

Showers mid afternoon added 3 juv Ringed Plover and a report of 2 Spotted Redshank to the days tally.

Sand Martin, House Martin and Swallow moving south. Warblers still present or on the move included Common Whitethroat, Chiffchaff, Blackcap and Willow Warbler. Yellow Wagtail again late afternoon.

A good count of 119 Stock Dove.

Raptors included 2 Marsh Harrier, 2 Common Buzzard, Peregrine and Kestrel.

Bird of the day goes to a Starling which spent a good while riding, Oxpecker style, on one of the Longhorn cattle.
