Pink-footed Geese arriving
A real classic autumn day here with skein after skein of Pink-footed Geese arriving throughout the day.
You could pretty much scan out towards the coast and track flocks of Pink-footed Geese heading south before they turned inland to arrive on the reserve.
Plenty of geese to scan through and a single Barnacle Goose and an orange legged Pink-footed Goose were found in the flocks.
At least 7 new Whooper Swan in today, possibly more.
A good raptor day with 6 species recorded. A Hobby was seen to catch a House Martin in the afternoon. Other raptors included 2 Marsh Harrier, 3 Common Buzzard, Peregrine, 3 Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.
The Pectoral Sandpiper was present but can be elusive. Around 300 Lapwing, 100+ Snipe, 25 Ruff, 25 Black-tailed Godwit and 2 Dunlin.
Two Wheatear from the UU Hide, also 2 Kingfisher seen there. Passage migrants included a flock of c100 Meadow Pipit and some wagtails and Skylarks.
At least 4 Goldcrest along the Nature Trail.
