Pintail

The winter's highest count of Pintail this morning with just over 700 of this elegant duck around the reserve. Martin Mere is undoubtedly one of the best spots in the UK to see this species.

Another fine, if cold day. No rise in Avocet numbers(!) with 28 still on the Mere. The onset of this cooler weather will knock back further influxes. Other waders included 90 Ruff, 8 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Ringed Plover, 50+ Oystercatcher and 500+ Lapwing.

Three Raven were seen today coming in for carrion. Three Peregrine hunting, 6 Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel.

Brambling again from the Janet Kear Hide also Treecreeper. Eight Redwing in the overflow car park.
