Plovers

A very reasonable start to the day. Recently most of the poor weather seems to have occurred late in the day or overnight and today has been no exception. Waders to the fore with the first Ringed Plover, a pair mostly along the back of the Mere and in the afternoon 5 Golden Plover from the Ron Barker Hide. These birds bring the site year list to 90 species.

Still excellent numbers of Lapwing with at least 3000 birds, also 76 Ruff, 33 Oystercatcher, 10 Black-tailed Godwit, Dunlin and Common Snipe.

Plenty of Whooper Swans but no counts and small numbers of Pink-footed Geese. Most of the usual wildfowl are present including 30+ Pochard and 200+ Pintail. It's not too late to turn up a Green-winged Teal or American Wigeon in among the flocks of their eurasian counterparts.

Raptors included Merlin, Marsh Harrier, 3+ Common Buzzard and Sparrowhawk.
