Raptors
A good day for raptors probably resulting from the weekends wet and windy weather which would have made hunting difficult for these birds. Merlin seen on and off, 3 Peregrines early on, with one catching a Coot. At least 5 Common Buzzard, 2 Marsh Harrier, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.
So far this year we have recorded 86 species of bird on the reserve. This is down on last year as a result of the milder conditions. Perhaps a cold snap on continental europe will push a few more wintering species into the UK?
