Redwing

First Redwing of the autumn feeding on elderberries next to the in focus shop. Normally hear them first calling on night migrations, although Song Thrush sound similar to the uninitiated. There has been a reasonable influx of Redwing, Song Thrush and Blackbirds on the east coast so we can expect more in the coming days and weeks.

A calm day, mostly sunny so ideal for viewing. Around 100 Whoopers dropped in late morning. Some big numbers of Pink's though no counts until tomorrow. Six Mute Swan which arrived on the Mere then left, were noteworthy.

Quiet for waders with 600+ Lapwing, 5 Ruff and Snipes.

A Kingfisher showed well from the Ron Barker Hide, also Water Vole from there.

Nuthatch seen from the Janet Kear Hide, still a good one for your 'Martin Mere List'. Two Jay also seen today. Goldcrest by in focus.

Juvenile Peregrine caught a Teal. Also present 2 Marsh Harrier, 3 Common Buzzard, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.
