Sand Martin

Sand Martin new for the year and really the first 'classic' spring migrant. This is one of the earliest records of Sand Martin at Martin Mere. Once all the WWT Martin Mere data has been finally computerised I'll be able to tell you exactly how it fits in!

A good raptor day with Merlin, 2 Peregrine, 6+ Common Buzzard, 2+ Kestrel and Sparrowhawk. Tawny Owl again.

A group of 18 Curlew dropped in. At least 60 Avocet, 40+ Oystercatcher, 70+ Ruff, 20+ Black-tailed Godwit, 2+ Redshank, Dunlin, Common Snipe and 200+ Lapwing.

Counts included ~ 960 Whooper swan and 1600 Pink-footed Geese.
