Low cloud and misty rain alway promise something interest and almost the first bird seen while scanning the Mere this morning was Sandwich Tern. They never hang around for longer than a day and in the last 14 years we have only had 4 records.

This bird becomes the 158 species for 2012 making it  a record year already although currently we only have figures for  2010 (151),  2011 (157) and we have recently calculated figures for 1991 were 156 species were seen.

Another good wader day with 2 Greenshank which flew in 16:30, 3 Green Sandpiper, 10 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Ruff, 8 Dunlin, Ringed Plover, 150 Lapwing, 20 Oystercatcher and 5 Avocet.
