How nice was today! Temperatures nudged 18 degrees and apparently it's likely to continue for the next 5 days at least. Now could somebody just improve the visibilty a bit and we will all be happy.

Two new addition to the reserve year list today bringing our total onto 112 species. A Jack Snipe was flushed on the path edge along the Reed Bed Walk. Four Whimbrel flew calling over the reserve representing Lancashire's earliest record of this species.

Lowest roosting count of Whooper Swan with 460 birds. Sixty five Avocet counted today.

A good raptor day with Merlin, 3 Marsh Harrier, 6+ Common Buzzard, 2 Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.

Chiffchaff singing on the Reed Bed Walk late afternoon. Peacock, Small Tortiseshell and Brimstone Butterflies on the wing.
