Some Disturbance

Some disturbance today and probably tomorrow as the early autumn vegetation and grass cutting occurs around the reserve. The amount of rain received over summer is making hay cutting out on the marshy reserve fields very difficult. These cuts provide new growth for the arriving Geese as well as winter food for the WWT Longhorn herd who are a valuable conservation tool on the reserve fields.

One or two reports including 2 Marsh Harrier, 30 Ruff, ~500 Lapwing and similar numbers of Starling. Kingfisher again from the Ron Barker Hide.

Tawny Owl showed well opposite in Ivy clad trees opposite a bench near the Kingfisher Hide.

Frosted Orange Moth was new for the year in the trap this morning. We've not had time to run the trap often this year however the 'moth year list' has reached 199.
