Spoonbill

Spoonbill flew in around 11am onto Woodend Marsh viewable from the United Utilities Hide and still on site 4pm at least. Probably the same bird which showed well in front of the Raines Hide around 6pm yesterday.

Bittern seen around 1.30pm from the Harrier Hide and Little Egret flew through the reserve towards Scarisbrick ~ 3pm.

Two Sand Martin this afternoon.

Some counts around the reserve included 64 Avocet, 30+ Ruff, 28 Black-tailed Godwit, 16 Redshank, 15 Oystercatcher, 4 Ringed Plover and Dunlin. The Redshank were display flying this morning.

Waterfowl counts included 88 Teal, 44 Wigeon, 11 Pintail, 5 Gadwall, 8 Shoveler, 10 Tufted Duck, 40 Canada Geese and 65 Greylag. Still some sizable Pink-footed Goose flocks in the area (1000+). Four Whooper Swan on the reserve probably a few more locally still.

Other birds seen today, 2 Peregrine, Raven, 2 Tawny Owl and Barn Owl.
