With most of the air flow coming from the north it does feel like a rather slow start to spring. There have been some birds battling in against the cool condition with the years first Willow Warbler singing on the Nature Trail this morning. To put this into context the first Willow Warbler in 2010 and 2011 were on the 11th and 2nd of April respectively.

A fair few hirundine on the move with 5+ Swallow and 10+ Sand Martin passing through. Two male Northern Wheatear were along the reserve boundary from the Reed Bed Walk.

The first Lapwing chicks hatched the other day, although some birds are only just starting to sit on eggs. Over 90 Avocet, 30+ Black-tailed Godwit, 40 Oystercatcher, plenty of Redshank and a few pairs of Ringed Plover.

Raptors have included Peregrine, 8+ Common Buzzard, 2 Marsh Harrier, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.
