Two excellent late migrants in the form of a Swallow and a Wheatear were one of the highlights of the day! The Swallow was seen flying through the reserve by Birdfair visitors, while the Wheatear potentially Lancashires latest ever was just off the reserve at Brandreth Barn. The Wheatear is almost certainly the same bird reported 2 weeks a go in the same area which had been reported earlier.

At least 22 European White-fronted Geese were seen continuing the good run of records from the recent nationwide influx, it's hard to be sure how many birds have been involved with varying flock sizes being seen, but it bodes well for the winter. The first adult Bewick's Swan was reported today among c1000 Whooper Swan and c5000 Pink footed Geese.

Other birds of note today included sightings of 2 Raven, 5 Marsh Harrier, ringtail Hen Harrier and Common Buzzard.

Many thanks to everyone who came to the Birdfair and made it a great success over the weekend.
