Hide closure: Sunday 9 November

No access to Ron Barker, Hale and Mere View Hides
Unfortunately, we have had a recent case of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in our collection birds. To prevent further spread of the disease, we are putting in place some additional protection measures, which includes testing the birds in our duckery. To allow our teams the time and space to do this, we’ve temporarily closed this part of the wetland reserve and will reopen on Monday 10 November.

Thank You

A big thank you to all those who call in at the in focus shop to report your sighting. This 'blog' relies on the regulars and visitors who do this, so if you enjoy reading this do pop in and tell us what you've seen.

Two adult White-fronted Geese were seen mid afternoon from the United Utilities Hide with a few hundred Pink-footed Geese. The Whooper Swan numbers are on the up with 500+ on the Mere late afternoon.

The 'usual' raptors with 3 Peregrine, 4 Marsh Harrier, 3+ Common Buzzard and Sparrowhawk.

Some large roving tit flocks inside the Waterfowl Gardens. One flock held a warbler sp. seen briefly. Probability say's it will be a Chiffchaff but perhaps it's not too late to get a 'twitchable' Yellow-brow...

Little Egret again. Keep an eye out for Glossy Ibis and Great White Egret for both species have been seen close by on the Ribble.
