A frosty start to the day, calm winds and great light made for ideal condition to experience some of the best winter birding anywhere in the UK.

A Harrier fest with 5 Marsh Harrier seen throughout the day, with these birds coming into roost on the reed bed in front of the aptly named Harrier Hide. Ring-tailed Hen Harrier seen this morning, Peregrine, 3 Common Buzzard, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.

Three species of Owl, Short-eared and Barn hunting this afternoon and Tawny roosting in an owl box inside the the collection area opposite the the Janet Kear Hide.

Cetti's Warbler again along the Reed Bed Walk. This part of the reserve is open before and after the reserve is closed.

Around 2000 Lapwing, 50+ Ruff, 3 Golden Plover, Black-tailed Godwit and Common Snipe.

Water Rail again showed well from the Kingfisher Hide.

A great spectacle still with ~ 1600 Whooper Swan, particularly as birds fly in before the 3pm feed.
