3 Water Rails, 2 from the Kingfisher hide and 1 from the Janet Kear hide were among today's birding highlights. Although present all year, and not uncommon, this species can prove very difficult to see due to it's skulking habits. However, when the water freezes over, they are often tempted out into the open, and can sometimes be seen at the edges of reedbeds or even at feeding stations. Other birds recorded today include a Hen Harrier (a different bird to the one which has been present for some time), a single Marsh Harrier, a Raven, 2 Dunlin, 5 Black-tailed Godwits, 72 Ruff and a Redshank. A count of 117 Tufted Duck was received from the Harrier hide.
