Wet and Windy

Remember those warm days of spring? Don't cast off those fleeces yet as it looks like we are in for cooler condition for the next 5 days or so. As a result it's less likely we will see an influx of summer migrants, although locally, Little Ringed Plover, Sand Martin. Swallow and Wheatear have all been recorded.

Waders present today included 140+ Lapwing, 50+ Avocet, 50+ Oystercatcher, 20+ Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Ringed Plover, 4+ Common Snipe, 30+ Ruff including the breeding plumage male and at least 2 obviously smaller reeves (female Ruff).

Still small numbers of Eurasian Teal and Wigeon. Shoveler are more apparent with 20+ on the reserve, also Gadwall present.

Around 150 Whooper Swan still mostly feeding off the reserve. The first winter Ross's Goose looking smart on the Mere this morning.

Raptors included Marsh Harrier, 3+ Common Buzzard, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.

Keep an eye out around the hanging feeders for Redpoll, an as yet unrecorded species on our year list.
