Café kitchen closure

From 8–17 September, our café kitchen will be closed for refurbishment. During this time, our front-of-house will remain open, offering a selection of cakes and ice cream, sandwiches, and drinks. You will also be able to visit our kiosks by the play areas.

Whimbrel new for the year.

Top spring day weather wise loads of butterflies on the wing, plenty of breeding birds in song around the reserve too.

First Whimbrel of the year with c.70 Curlew from the Ron Barker Hide this morning. Other waders included Little Ringed Plover, 22 Ruff inc breeding plumage male, c40 Avocet, 100+ Lapwing, 10 Black-tailed Godwit, 10+ Oystercatcher, 8 Redshank, 2 Ringed Plover, 2 Dunlin and 2+ Common Snipe.

As yesterday the Reed Bed Walk had a reeling Grasshopper Warbler at the start of the trail early on at least. At least one Sedge Warbler, and a few Reed Warbler in song, also Willow Warbler.

Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Swallow and Sand Martin all regular.

Further along past the sewage works a male Wheatear. Off the reserve along Curlew Lane male Yellow Wagtail and White Wagtail.
