More signs of spring as the first White Wagtail, two birds, dropped in on islands on the Mere. Easily over looked as Pied Wagtails, but unlike them the White Wagtail has a pale grey mantle. Have a look in the Collins Bird Guide, it's all there! White Wagtail is generally a passage migrant and continental European breeder. This brings our year list onto 120 species.

It's been an excellent year for Yellowhammer, and today one of the wardens had a singing male on top of the hedgerow along the back of Pumphouse Field, viewable from the Ron Barker Hide. This is the first for many years to be seen fully inside the reserve, as opposed to the boundary hedge.

Similar waders to yesterday but a slightly bigger count of Oystercatcher at 62 and a Little Ringed Plover flew in along the back of the Mere.
