A bright morning, with a singing Chiffchaff outside the In Focus shop giving a very Spring-like feel to the day. Between 7 and 10 pm last night, numbers of  Whooper Swans were heard apparently leaving the reserve. An early morning count today revealed 620 birds present, over 300 down on yesterday's total - presumably, weather conditions were such that a lot of swans decided that the time for the return trip to Iceland had arrived. 17 Black-tailed Godwits, several Common Buzzards and 2 Marsh Harriers were also seen.Small Tortoiseshell butterflies were seen from the car park and the In Focus shop, and were the first reports of the year.

Yesterday a probable Swallow flew through the reserve late afternoon.
