Woodcock

The arrival of a Woodcock, which showed well from the Janet Kear Hide has preempted the blast of cold air forecast to arrive over the next day or so. The JK Hide is one of the best spots in the North West to catch up with Woodcock during the winter, assuming your not one of the those people who go out and shoot them? I thought not.

It's quite likely that this cold weather will bring in more Whooper Swan and Pink-footed Geese, as well as more wildfowl as it proceeds onto continental Europe.

Counts of Teal and Wigeon produced 2600 and 1750 respectively.

Waders included Dunlin, Black-tailed Godwit, 10+ Common Snipe, 80+ Ruff and 800+ Lapwing.

Three Peregrine present, Marsh Harrier, 2+ Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel. Two Ravens roving around.

More signs of winter with Fieldfare and Redwing along the Nature Trail. Great-spotted Woodpecker visiting the feeders at the JK Hide.
