Hide closure: Sunday 9 November

No access to Ron Barker, Hale and Mere View Hides
Unfortunately, we have had a recent case of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in our collection birds. To prevent further spread of the disease, we are putting in place some additional protection measures, which includes testing the birds in our duckery. To allow our teams the time and space to do this, we’ve temporarily closed this part of the wetland reserve and will reopen on Monday 10 November.

Yellowhammer

New addition to the year list with singing Yellowhammer along the edge of the reserve on the recently purchased (last year) land by the railway line. Another was also singing just off the reserve near the derelict farm opposite the entrance. Corn Bunting close by.

The warm afternoon sun had a minimum of 8 Common Buzzard up. Marsh Harrier, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel also present.

A second year Med Gull from the Ron Barker Hide this afternoon.

Blackcap and Chiffchaff singing around the reserve.

A similar wader count to yesterday.
