Lost birds reunited for Valentines!
Earlier in the winter, we were sad to see our old friend Gien return without her mate of two years Grenoble. A couple of weeks passed and Gien remained on her own. As swans tend to mate for life, the arrival of a bird without its mate often means that the other has passed away. However, just as we were fearing the worst, Grenoble appeared at the afternoon feed and a vigorous courtship dance ensued! It's likely that the pair were separated whilst flying during bad weather or after being scared by some disturbance somewhere along the migration route. The happily reunited couple have settled into Slimbridge life together once again!
