Brand new baby!
The first Caribbean flamingo chick has hatched today. Pipping (breaking out) of the egg yesterday, the chick was returned to the nest site on which it was laid, and this morning Phil was pleased to report a healthy chick had completely emerged from the shell. Proud parent RGX has been a model example of parental care so far, keeping the chick warm and dry in the lovely summer (cough!) weather this July. The chick is still very wobbly and has a straight beak, which will eventually turn into the familiar curve that gives flamingos their unique style. Here's to many more chicks following this little fellow!
