Bring your little ones to meet ours at WWT slimbridge Wetland Centre this half term.
Children can discover the cutest baby birds imaginable waddling at their feet at WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre this spring half term.
They can even meet them before they hatch at our unforgettable Downy Duckling experiences.
Here families can go behind the scenes of our busy duckling nursery and get a sneak preview of baby ducks still in their eggs through a magical process known as candling (which pre-dates electricity hence the name).
There are further treats in store, with close up views of ducklings hatching, taking their first wobbly steps and splashing around having fun in the water. You can visit a Downy Duckling experience at Slimbridge Wetland Centre from 23 May to 31 May.
WWT Duckery Warden, Phoebe Young said: “With Spring being later this year families will be able to get up close to an abundance of wild baby birds at our centres this half term.
“These friendly youngsters are free to waddle amongst visitors, and children (and grown-ups alike) love feeding them.
“For families who want to discover a bit more, our behind-the-scenes Downy Ducklings experiences are ideal, providing an amazing view of life in the egg and up close encounters with newly hatched ducklings.”
As well as Downy Duckling experiences and spotting lots of different, fluffy babies toddling about there’s a whole host of other fun family activities at our centres this spring half term.
For those who crave holiday adventure, there’s a chance to paddle or glide through reeds and come face to face with kingfishers, water voles and lots more on our canoe safari at WWT Slimbridge.
- Children (plus parents and grandparents) can hand feed some of the adorable baby birds wandering about at their feet (watch out for the tickling!)
- Little ones can splash away to their heart’s content at our fun outdoor wet playground Welly Boot Land.
Downy Duckling experiences are included in the cost of admission and free to members. Just book on a tour in the admissions area on arrival.
