Can you lend us an 'elfing hand?
If you are fond of bells and pointy hats then the perfect volunteering opportunity has arisen for you.
WWT Slimbridge is on the lookout for some volunteer elves to help with its busy Christmas events programme.
Each December the visitor attraction in Gloucestershire runs festive events at the weekends including its popular Breakfast with Father Christmas mornings and Santa’s grotto.
Slimbridge’s ‘Duck hut’ a small outdoor building normally used for ringing ducks and recording their data undergoes a dramatic transformation into a rustic grotto. Natural holly, ivy and willow stars hang from the walls alongside a host of twinkling lights, baskets of gifts and a cosy fire.
Sally Munro, marketing manager, said: “We are excited that Father Christmas is coming to WWT Slimbridge again this year, but sadly we are short of a few elves.
“We thought there might be people living locally who would enjoy supporting a good cause and spreading the joy of Christmas.
“It is a very rewarding event to take part in as families enjoy our more natural grotto and the chance to feed the birds afterwards.
“No prior experience is necessary as we give training and provide our elves with fantastic festive costumes.”
Slimbridge Wetland Centre is where the headquarters of the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust is based.
The wildlife charity has a number of other volunteering roles at its Centre and is also looking to fill general visitor services vacancies at weekends when it is busiest.
