Festival of Gardening at Slimbridge
From painting plant pots to learning what makes a good wildlife pond there is plenty to do at our Festival of Gardening this weekend.
On Saturday and Sunday Slimbridge Wetland Centre will celebrate gardening with activities for adults and children running throughout the day.
Our horticulture team will have a demonstration showing how to make a good wildlife pond. You can come and see them and take some tips home of how to replicate one in your garden.
Children can also make a plant pal, a butterfly, a ladybird or paint a plant pot to take home with them (additional charge of £3 a pot; compost and seeds are included).
Tamsyn Auckland, learning assistant, said: “There are some very easy steps you can take to attract a wide range of different species to your garden.
“With a bit of thought about what flowers to plant and by adding a small pond you can make a real difference.”
Slimbridge is also where the the headquarters of the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust is based, which runs eight other centres across the UK.
All the centres have gardening themed events sponsored by NFU Mutual running at various dates throughout March. To find out more visit www.wwt.org.uk/gardening
