From Craneberry Fest to Father Christmas, we have Xmas all wrapped up at WWT Slimbridge!
We all know birds and cranberries go hand in hand – but we’re not talking turkey – and our birds definitely aren’t for Christmas dinner!
Throughout December and January (From November 30th until January 26th), WWT Slimbridge, with the farmer owned Ocean Spray cranberry cooperative, will be hosting the first ever Craneberry Fest. This will be a celebration of our favourite wetland fruit, the cranberry, and an iconic wetland bird, the crane, after which cranberries are named.
Visit at the weekends and during school holidays in the run up to the festivities to make beautiful cranberry decorations for the tree and visit after Christmas, and into the New Year to make cranberry bird feeders.
Throughout Craneberry Fest WWT Slimbridge will also have a special Craneberry Fest Trail.
Father Christmas will also be opening up his rustic grotto at WWT Slimbridge on weekend afternoons in December. Each year a building normally used for duck ringing makes a dramatic transformation into a beautiful natural grotto, decorated with holly, ivy and twinkling lights.
Sally Munro, WWT Slimbridge Marketing Manager, said: ‘’The festive season has to be the best time of year to visit a WWT Wetland Centre – many are teeming with beautiful birds that have migrated here from colder countries and the scenery is simply stunning in the winter months. Thanks to Ocean Spray our cranberry themed activities offer even more excitement for our visitors, so grab your coats, wrap up warm and spend the day outdoors with family, friends and loved ones. With both WWT and Ocean Spray committed to sustaining wetland communities, it’s a perfect partnership brought to life.’’
