LEGO® workshops galore throughout the summer at WWT Slimbridge
For the ultimate LEGO® animal experience this summer we are offering LEGO® building workshops alongside our newly launched Giant LEGO® Brick Animal Trail, on weekends and daily throughout the summer holidays.
Inspired by the 2018 Trail LEGO® brick wetland creatures throughout the site, the workshop challenges participants in a series of team-building and competitive LEGO® activities. Meet two LEGO® mother ducks and do a Time Challenge to see how many ducklings you can build for them. Build a LEGO® brick vehicle to transfer your LEGO® animals down a ramp, and showcase your own creative design talent.
The final activity gives the opportunity to participants to build their own miniature version of impressive new addition to the trail, Sam the short-eared owl, to take home. This is a new LEGO® model in the 2018 Trail and will add to previous workshop mini LEGO® animal builds, so return workshop participants can add a new member to their mini wetland creature LEGO® brick collection, previously a frog, duckling, and a fly.
The workshops will be led by our friendly Learning Team, who have devised a fun one hour workshop, that will really test your ingenuity.
Learning Manager, Sue Belej, comments:
‘We see individuals of all ages participating, with young and old working together and enjoying the rewards of set challenges, with a special Certificate of Completion this year to take home in recognition of participant’s supreme LEGO® skills.’
The workshop is designed to provide a welcome additional activity to the trail, enabling parents to have a pit-stop and children a chance to sit down and have a go at LEGO® building themselves.
Sue Steele, a parent of a LEGO® workshop participant commented:
“Our children aged 6 and 9 loved the LEGO® session. The tutors were enthusiastic and supportive and very good at encouraging the children. I would highly recommend this session to other families.”

The Giant LEGO® Brick Animal Trail
The 2018 Trail is inspired by species from across the WWT sites featuring fourteen 1.5m LEGO® animal models in total, including a Hawaiian goose or nene (the world’s rarest goose), a huge kingfisher, and a giant frog. The specially designed trail includes brand new life-size animal characters, joining some of the favourites Flavia the Flamingo and Lottie the Otter. Meet new bricks on the block - Sam the short-eared owl, Walter the water vole, and Skye the stork. It’s a must see day out for Lego fans of all ages!
The trail across Slimbridge Wetland Centre Each sculpture is built by professional LEGO® builders, taking hundreds of hours and using 253,728 bricks in total. The new short-eared owl took 80 hours to create.
