Let the Kids Go Wild this Summer Dusty’s Wildlife Rangers at Slimbridge Wetland Centre
Children of all ages can join Dusty Duck, pick up their very own log book and become real-life wildlife rangers at WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre this summer holiday.
From Saturday 22 July to Sunday 3 September families can enjoy a full day of discovery and adventure, with a wide variety of wildlife ranger activities being held at our nine UK centres. At Slimbridge, you’ll be able to take part in:
Canoe Safari (11am - 4pm) - Go on a wetland Canoe Safari along our watery trail. See if you can spot dragonflies, kingfishers and water voles!
Giant Nest Building (11am - 3pm) - We need your Wildlife Ranger skills! It’s all hands on deck to build the biggest and wildest nest we’ve ever seen. Help us make it GIANT this summer.
Ranger Survival Camp 2017 (11am - 3pm) - Learn lots of useful ranger survival skills in our brand new Ranger Survival Camp 2017, with activities changing each hour.
Nature Detectives (11am) – Go on a wild adventure in to the reed bed, searching for and learning how to identify a range of wildlife with our real life super rangers.
Build a Mini Raft (All day) - Use your problem solving skills to build a mini raft, then put it to the test in our wild challenges each afternoon.
Hand Feed our Birds (All day) - Grab some grain and get up close to the birds of Slimbridge with some hand feeding. Look out for the rarest goose in the world!
NEW for 2017 Pondemonium! (2pm - 3pm) – Did you know pond creatures have super powers? Learn all about the beasties that call the Slimbridge ponds their home and what their special powers are.
Children will be encouraged to record their findings and experiences in their log books, like a real life ranger, as a happy reminder of their wild day out.
Scott Petrek, one of Slimbridge’s real life wildlife rangers said:
“I love being a wildlife ranger for WWT and helping to care for and protect our amazing wetland animals. We thought families would welcome the chance to experience what it’s like to be a ranger through a series of fun-packed, mini adventures, including activities that I do as part of my day to day job. Hopefully, we’ll also inspire some of our younger visitors to become the wildlife rangers of the future, helping to create a world where healthy wetland nature thrives and enriches lives.”
Ranger log books are free with entry to the centre, along with a number of activities. Some activities have a small additional charge. Please see the WWT website for more details on activities and pricing wwt.org.uk/wildliferangers
