Steamy cranes show spring is in the air!

cranesmating2royshilhamDespite wintery conditions in Gloucestershire a pair of mating cranes has shown that spring in on the way, well in their eyes anyway!
Bart and Ruby, who were released as chicks in Somerset as part of the Great Crane Project, spent last summer at WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre but failed to rear a chick.
From the look of these pictures by visitor Roy Shilham though it looks like they are wasting no time trying again this year!
Cranes which are the largest bird in the UK have become a real feature at WWT Slimbridge. Regularly the striking birds perform dramatic flypasts in the skies above the famous nature Reserve and do dancing displays in front of the hides.
