360 Blackwits

Zeiss Hide

A magnificent flock of 360 black tailed godwit on the Top New Piece also 430 lapwing, 600 Teal, 47 Wigeon. Very mobile 190 Dunlin and 14 snipe crammed onto a small rushy island at the north end.

Tack Piece

Wigeon 360, whitefront flock (80+) to north. Lapwing 1200 and Golden Plover 620 but very mobile moving out to the northern fields. The redshank flock (54) and 20 ruff look great again along the edge of the scrape.. Dunlin flock also very mobile several hundred moving between here and the dumbles. Just a handful of curlew in the floods and the three water rail were at the Willow Hide.

Estuary Tower

Some good close wigeon here this morning, 150 on the scrape but 700+ distantly on the estuary with at least 57 Pintail. The pinkfooted geese were showing well in their favourite spot at the north end of the dumbles. Hundreds of Canada and barnacle gees but couldn't find the brent geese. Nice roost of 40+ GBB gulls and nearly 300 curlew strung out along the edge of the Dumbles. Dunlin, lapwing golden plover and the occasional redshank filling in the gaps. At least 4 buzzard were on display at one point.

South Lake

A little quieter than normal with the godwits all in the Top New Piece but 340 lapwing, 3 snipe lots of teal, Pochard tufted duck and shoveler making it still pretty busy.
A god selection of gull species in all plumages if you fancy brushing up on your gull id.
