A few more Bewick's Swans
A cold night night meant that many shallow water areas froze, it was a quiet hide round but picked up later with the thaw.
Rushy Hide
Three more Bewick's Swans appeared, regulars Risa and Riso (pictured together) and another rather nervous yearling . Trotsky, the newly named yearling that arrived last week is pictured (head portrait).
Tack Piece
The Bewick's Swans spent part of the daytime here as well as a small number of E. White-fronted Geese, c250 Wigeon and c200 Teal.
Holden Tower
2 Reed Bunting in the hedge below the hide. The Red-breasted Goose and Brent Goose were on the Dumbles with the Barnacle Goose flock.
South Lake
Great Crested Grebe, 10 Pochard and 20 Shoveler noted early morning, the two Cattle Egret roosted in the alder trees but headed off to the village cattle herds for the day. Late news of a Little Stint and Spotted Redshank on the (now thawed) wader scrape by late afternoon.
Zeiss Hide
Small flocks of Dunlin, Golden Plover and Lapwing were accompanied by a Little Stint, 1 Ruff and a few Snipe. c600 Wigeon fed on the lawn adjacent to the Van de Bovenkamp hide.
Kingfisher Hide
The Black-tailed Godwit flock, Golden Plover and Lapwing fed in the field with a few Ruff.
