A welcome top up

Heavy overnight rain has helped to top up some of the scrapes, the South lake is still a bit on the low side.

The Tack Piece island creation project was completed yesterday, it was pleasing to see the water levels rising again and a good variety of birds actually using them already. The adult Spotted Redshank, 9 Green Sandpiper, 6 juvenile Little-ringed Plover, juvenile Dunlin (with a short bill), 15 Pied Wagtail, single Redshank and 3 Teal. The Reed Warblers are feeding young here. As ever the birds here move about during the day, it's worth taking care in the hides to move slowly to avoid scaring the closer birds.

Top New Piece

'New in' juvenile Wood Sandpiper, 52 Dunlin (2 juv), 3 Redshank juv Avocet, Ross's Goose, 15 Barnacle Geese, 28 Teal and a few Shoveler and Gadwall.

Rushy Hide

Water levels have risen with the overnight torrential rain- less waders here today but still a Common Sandpiper, 2 Black-tailed Godiwt, 7 Redshank and 23 Lapwing. *Please note that tractor hay cutting will be underway here today, many birds will largely ignore it*.

South Lake

Our first (?) juvenile Mediterranean Gull with 170 Black-headed Gulls, 175 Black-tailed Godwit, Dunlin, 14 Redshank, 5 Ruff, 41 Lapwing, Little Grebe, large numbers of duck-Gadwall, Mallard, Tufted Duck and a Pochard, flocks of Greylag Geese.

Middle Point

Yellow Wagtail flying about, 200 Starlings feeding on plums, 30 Goldfinch and a few Linnet families, Reed Warbler in the hedge. 30 Curlew on the Dumbles but all flew to the sands, one head started bird among them + 46 on mudflats N of the point also 8 Dunlin.
