The height of the tides for the next few days have been revised upwards so the Dumbles was underwater again this morning, pushing birds into the Zeiss Hide and off the estuary.

The height of the tides for the next few days have been revised upwards so the Dumbles was underwater again this morning, pushing birds into the Zeiss Hide and off the estuary.

Zeiss Hide
The high tide roost produced 2 Curlew Sandpiper, 102 Dunlin, 31 Knot, a Spotted Redshank, a juvenile Little-ringed Plover, 41 Ringed Plover, 40+ Snipe, 276 Black-tailed Godwit, 9 Redshank, 4 Avocet, a Golden Plover, 2 Curlew and 3 Greenshank. A flock of 12 Cranes were on the Dumbles this morning with four dropping in to the Top New Piece at lunchtime for a bathe, the colour rings revealing these birds were Pepe, Cookie, Excalibird and Sedge). A Red Underwing moth (photo) was fluttering aroudn outside the hide before settling on the outside wall near the drainpipe at the northern end of the hide. Also noted this morning were 1036 Teal, a Water Rail and a very vocal Cetti's Warbler.

South Lake
The two juvenile Black Terns were still present at lunchtime, buzzing around the deep lake and occasionally landing on the wader scrape. Two Spoonbill flew over mid morning, circled and looked interested to land but then continued south.
