Avocet 'superflock' on the Severn

Record numbers of Avocet

The last of the breeding Avocets are to be found on the Rushy lower pond, three pairs, two singles and a trio are yet to fledge, the rest of the our birds have formed a superflock on the Severn, in the last two weeks we had consistent counts of over 200 birds which includes the fledged birds from the South Lake. They can be found on the wet mud on ebb tides or low tide creeks and pools and seem to have a preference for roosting on the shores of the Severn rather than roost on the scrapes.
