Avocets everywhere

Rushy

Fantastically busy with 58 Avocets nest building incubating and prospecting for nests, at least 10 incubating birds but as yet no young. Little Ringed Plover pair displaying and nest scraping.

Tack Piece

Great close up views of a Little Egret in a superb setting. Two Cranes another couple of Avocet, a Greenshank and a Lapwing on the main flash.

South Lake

Yet more Avocet another 14 here with 48 Black Tailed Godwit and another pair of displaying Little Ringed Plover. A cettis was singing and a Great Crested Grebe nest building in the north west corner of the lake

Mid Point

Curlew 25 on the estuary and a pair of Oystercatchers, Reed and Sedge Warbler and Reed Bunting singing in reeds.

Zeiss Hide

Avocet another 22 and a post breeding flock of 24 Lapwing, just a single Redshank. Reed Bunting 2, Oystercatcher 1, Shoveler 7, Gadwall 11,

Both Kingfishers showing with male left incubating. Also Cettis, Reed and Sedge Warbler.

Wild Safaris

Good views of cuckoo for everyone, a hatch of off Mayflies attracted lots of hawking Black Headed Gulls. The Great White Egret showed and a Little on the estuary. Lots of Herons and singing Reed, Sedge, and Cettis Warbler in the reed bed. Both Hobby and a Kingfisher showed fleetingly both green and Great Spotted Woodpecker were heard but the brood of Blue Tits in a Gate post were the highlight for many.

The Dragonflies were great and included several first for the year for me. Southern Hawker, Emperor, Hairy (1), Broad Bodied Chaser, Four Spotted Chaser, Scarce Chaser (2) Lots of Blue and Blue Tailed Damsels several Large reds and a Beautiful Demoiselle. A glimpse of a Roe Deer, a baby Short Tailed Vole and at least 3 Grass Snakes.

Safaris will run at weekends and school holidays weather permitting through to the end of September
