Avocets settle on nests

A few Avocet pairs have begun to settle on nests and lay their eggs, so far pairs are sitting on the Rushy, South Lake and Dumbles with many more pairs yet to commit.

Today's sightings and highlights are as follows

South Lake

A Glossy Ibis on the scrape early morning, a Cattle Egret late morning, the lake was busy for gulls, the second calendar year Caspian Gull was back again as well as up to 300+ Black-headed Gull, four second calendar year Mediterranean Gulls, a second calendar year Little Gull (with pink blush), second calendar year Great Black-backed Gull, 50+ Herring, 6 Lesser Black-backed and 6 Common Gulls, 65 Avocet (three nests), 2 Common Sandpiper, pair each of Little and Great Crested Grebe, pair of Little-ringed Plover, two Kingfishers (chasing) two pairs of Oystercatcher + Cormorant, Teal and Tufted Ducks.

Tack Piece

A drake Pintail, 8 drake and 6 duck Shoveler, 20 Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Avocet, 7 Teal.

Knott Hide

Singing Reed and Sedge Warbler, Blackcap and Chiffchaff.

The Dumbles

A Wheatear, 26 Avocet, 3 Curlew, 3 pairs of Oystercatcher, 7 Teal and a pair of Shoveler.

Rushy Hide

A pair of nesting Little-ringed Plover (in the protective cage), a Common Sandpiper, 22 Avocet (two nests), 7 Black-tailed Godwit, pair of Oystercatcher, pair of Pied Wagtail, pair of nesting Cranes, a few teal and Tufted Duck.

Bottom New Piece

Two female Marsh Harriers were about early morning and eight territorial Lapwing and a couple of pairs of Redshank were on the flood and field.
