Our long-legged visitor is still with us, spending time today on the Top New Piece and South Lake.

Rushy Hide
Four broods of Avocet have now hatched on the lower pond, with another 11 nests still in progress. A total of 50 adults were present. A few broods of Mallard ducklings are also present here, including a brood of nine and another of seven. Other duck included the moulting flock 61 Gadwall, six Shoveler and a pair of Teal. The nesting pair of Oystercatcher in front of the Peng Observatory have two eggs, and spend some of the morning chasing off another two pairs of Oystercatcher from the Rushy.

Decoy Hide
A female Cuckoo was bubbling around the area, and on the pond were two adult Little Grebe and a Mute Swan adult with seven cygnets.

South Lake
A male Yellow Wagtail was on the wader scrape this morning. Avocet here totaled 50 adults with at least 13 chicks visible. The Oystercatcher pair still have at least two well-grown chicks (and the third may have been hidden nearby), and a Little Ringed Plover was also seen. On the deep lake were a pair of Wigeon and a drake Pochard. The moulting flock of Coot is now building and today held 34 birds. The Mute Swan family have five cygnets.

Martin Smith Hide
A Great Egret was stalking the reedbed margins of the pool and later moved to the Tack Piece was it showed off a colour-ring. We wait to hear where this bird was ringed, but most likely is as a chick in Somerset Levels.

Kingfisher Hide
The female Kingfisher was seen this morning on the pond. We're unsure if the chicks have now fledged and the pair are waiting to go again with a second brood. A male Cuckoo was singing nearby.

Summer Walkway / Middle Point
A small flock of waders were close in to the riverbank and included 12 Sanderling and 26 Ringed Plover. Two unringed Cranes were also on the mudflats, and later all four unringed Cranes were seen in flight over the Tack Piece. Two Curlew were in the Goose House Ground field.

Zeiss Hide
The Black-winged Stilt spend the morning on the Top New Piece before moving to the South Lake in the afternoon. Also on the Top New Piece were nine Shoveler, a brood of five Shelduck ducklings, 39 Avocet, five Redshank, four Barnacle Geese and a Grey Heron.
